Teaching and Education Activities IML

The IML plays an active role in the development and delivery of educational activities for medicine and pharmacy, as well as in postgraduate medical education. The staff of the IML supports curriculum design and implementation in close collaboration with the respective cooperation partners. In addition, the IML is partly responsible for teacher training (including faculty development) and the SP program (simulated patient), including the training of SPs and communication training.

Assessment in 2024 – Supported and Managed by the IML

Most exams are conducted using the Examic® Assessment Suite, which was specifically developed at IML: Measured® for MC (written) exams and Valuatic for OSCEs (practical exams).
For all OSCEs (practical exams), the tasks include both the training of raters and standardized/simulated patients (SPs) as well as the quality control of the SP roleplay.

Federal Licensing Exams (FLEs)
Coordination, support and analysis at the national level for all the Federal Licensing Exams in Switzerland (FLE Human Medicine, Chiropractic, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy). Additionally, for the FLE Human Medicine: coordinating and controlling the SP role portrayal and providing moulages and training videos for high standardization.

Exams at the Medical Faculty of the University of Bern

  • OSCE: Medicine 3rd & 5th Year, Pharmacy 5th Year, including faculty training for examiners
  • Supporting MC Exams (electronic written exams) for Medical Faculty (Human Medicine Years 1 − 5, Dentistry, Master Pharmacy, Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Sciences), including coordination and/or analysis
  • Supporting the Oral Exams for Medical Faculty (Year 2), including coordination and analysis

Exams at Other Universities
